What are the new colors for bathrooms?

colors for bathrooms

New colors for bathrooms are neutral colors and rich jewel tones. Also, becoming popular is the introduction of black with neutral accent colors. One of the new and up and coming modern bathroom designs is all about adding color. We are moving away from traditional and boring white to other colors. This is a major color shift for bathrooms.
Now, white bathrooms are still good, but we are expanding our options. A good example is the use of a dark to medium blue hue shower tile. This, of course, is bold and beautiful but works very well when the color is isolated in the bathroom. I do not do the entire bathroom in blue tile, only isolated objects and accents. In this example, the shower tile is blue, and I use a blue accent color in the rest of the bathroom to tie it all together. The accent could be a blue band just above the vanity. The accent pop of blue makes the bathroom look very rich and interesting. By using this technique, you can take a boring white bathroom to the next level of visually appealing. Also, the color does not have to be blue, it can be your favorite color. another timeless color would be black. however, I probably would not do the entire shower in black tile but a combination of black and white. black and white colors stand the test of time. come back in 10 years and it still looks great.

Another modern color trend for bathrooms is the use of naturals. These are soft natural colors like yellows, golden colors, and light hues of browns. I call these the naturals. For example, you could have a peachy color vanity top with a natural wood color for the bottom of the vanity with the rest of the bathroom being white. The accent colors are peach and golden-brown against a white bathroom wall. This is a great way to incorporate soft neutrals into your bathroom without being overpowering. It has a natural flow, looks, and feel to it, making it look very elegant.

I can now that the same concept mentioned above and flip it. I can have a dark blue or bold black color wall and then bring in a neutral color for the vanity base. Using a light walnut color for the cabinet base with a white vanity top against the black wall makes a very interesting tonal color change. The dark color could be black as in this example or a midnight blue or even a charcoal gray. You can pick your favorite darker color to pull this off. These designs are fantastic new modern color trends for bathrooms.

How do you style a modern bathroom?

style a modern bathroom

Styling a modern bathroom by using a pattern laying technique. This technique is very interesting but you have to be careful and not overuse the pattern layering technique because it can quickly become overpowering and look way too busy in a small space like a bathroom.
This technique is to be used sparingly. To style a modern bathroom using patterns, you can simply incorporate patterns into the tiles. For example, the tile floors can have a delicate pattern and even an accent color for the grout between the tiles to make the pattern stand out. Or you could use large slabs with color veins running through the slabs. The latter is not my choice but for someone who is looking to make an extremely bold statement that is definitely one way to do it. Using a veined stone throughout the bathroom can be pulled off to look good, but the stone needs to be a two-tone stone, not more than two colors, otherwise it looks way too busy and crazy.

the use of an accent stone in a modern bathroom

If I were to use this technique and really want to go bold in an enormous bathroom, the use of an accent stone would work very well. The way to do this is to pick a wall to use as the accent wall and cover the wall with a large pattern veined stone. The rest of the bathroom would be neutral colors, making the veined stone the center of attention. When walking into the bathroom your focus would immediately go to the large patterned veined stone. To pull this off, you need an enormous bathroom.

Another modern design option would be to use a pattern tile with an accent color for the grout on the bathroom floor, let us say black and white, and use a dark to medium color for the vanity base and keep the rest of the bathroom a neutral color. It is a good example of laying with pattern and color.

Styling a bathroom using plumbing fixtures

The next styling trends in a modern bathroom is the use of a sleek tank-less style of toilet. These are units with water tanks concealed behind the wall. So all you see is the toilet.
The toilet is usually wall hung and looks great for contemporary spaces. Another up-and-coming modern bathroom trend is to get rid of the shower bathtub combo and go for a separate shower and bathtub, or just a shower or just a free-standing tub. Now keep in mind the free-standing tubs I am talking about are modern designs made with resin in sleek styles and unusual shapes, not the old-fashioned claw-foot tubs your grandmother used. These tubs come in crazy colors like chrome, gold, and hammered silvers and in very unusual shapes like very deep Japanese style soaking tubs. Some tubs are over-the-top in looks and steal all the attention in your bathroom. You simply cannot take your eye off the tub.

Modern powder room trends

Some over-the-top modern powder room designs are using colors like metallic on black and metallic on neutral colors for an explosive look. Also popular are marbled and metallic wallpapers. They use marbles wallpaper on the walls either all over or just on an accent wall. This modern design is way over the top for me and looks way too busy. I find this to be a personal choice because it's just way too over-the-top. However, you can pull this off because a powder room is usually for your guests so you can turn the space into something really spectacular.

Turning Your Bathroom Into a Modern Spa

Modern Spa Like Bathroom

There are specific elements that can turn your ordinary bathroom into a Spa. These are things seen in nature like natural wood, natural stones, limestone, and even pebble floors.
And of course, you would not want to leave out plants. For example, a free-standing tub can be set in front of a living wall. They set the tub on a bed of pebbles. Looks absolutely amazing, but I am not sure how practical that really is. Plus, it looks like cleaning would be a nightmare, none the less it's definitely over-the-top and will be the focal point for anyone who enters your spa. The pebbles are actually laying on a large drain pan so water from the tub can drain down through the pebbles and into the drain pan into the drain. Very nice detail and modern design. The modern design principle here is to use natural materials as much as possible and to bring in nature. So these examples are over-the-top, but you can scale them back and only use what you think is appropriate for your bathroom. You can take certain elements to use in your bathroom, turning it into a modern spa.
