Does Your Bathroom Have to Match Your Bedroom

Does your bathroom have to match your bedroom should you decide to redecorate? Is it a good idea to have matching designs in your house? After all, it's your house so you can do whatever you want, right? In this article, I'll give you the pros and cons of having a matching bathroom and bedroom.

Your bathroom and bedroom should always match. Matching the bathroom and bedroom is a must if you are planning to sell your house or want a nice uniform look throughout your house. It's always more appealing to have a consistent design throughout your home. Homes that have unique designs in each room look too distracting and end up looking like a patchwork quilt. If each room is a different color and a unique design, it is not as welcoming, especially to a potential buyer. Now that being said, you do not have to paint your entire home a boring neutral color throughout. You can still have a nice interesting and appealing design, and make will look like we planned it. Matching colors and complementary patterns give you that designer look you are looking for without looking too gaudy.

Matching Bathroom to your Bedroom

Does your bathroom have to match your house?

Your bathroom should always match your house and should match your kitchen as well. By matching your bathroom to the rest of your house you are making a unified theme throughout your home which is immensely appealing to potential buyers and visiting guests. When visitors walk into your bathroom and see the same floor tile as in the kitchen, for example, it impresses them. Also, having the same vanity countertops as kitchen counters is very appealing. It gives your house a special cohesiveness and look and feel that is comfortable and carefully planned out. Having a matching theme is an excellent way to increase the attractiveness of your home.

Matching wall art

A super-simple way to match styles from one room to another is to use matching artwork. this is a great way to inject your own personality into each room.
And the art does not have to be identical or from the same artist. You can use art that is the same color or art that is the same subject. For example, if you like Berry Wall Art, Horses or Dogs, you can use wall art sets on those themes. Another good way to inject color is to use floral prints. Plus, they rarely go out of style.

What color looks good in a bathroom?

Always choose neutral colors in a bathroom. Neutral colors have many significant benefits. First, neutrals never go out of style. For example, if you painted your bathroom, avocado green folks would promptly say they love your 70s decor, peace man. Also, if you used a teal color, folks would say your 90s decor impresses them. Some colors are so dated you can easily determine the exact year they were popular. After a few years, if that long, you will repaint to a more modern color. So by using a nice neutral color, you avoid all that drama of having to repaint every few years. The better option is to use accent colors to add interest. For example, try adding colorful wall art, lighting or even the use of mirrors all make for a much better "evergreen" design. And if situations change it much easier to change the wall art and hanging mirrors than it is to repaint the bathroom walls.

There are some simple and easy things you can do to make all rooms in your home match giving you that designer look. The first thing would be to paint all the walls the same color or matching colors. One brilliant scheme is to paint your bathroom a neutral color and then use the same color in a darker shade for the bedroom. One thing to consider before painting is lighting. Paints look different in the morning light vs the afternoon light. And smaller rooms like bathrooms look even smaller when painted a darker color. I would suggest to paint a small section of the wall in the new color and look at it during the day and night to see if that is what you like. It is often almost impossible to tell from store paint samples if that is the color you like. Once the paint is up on the wall, it always looks so much different. Professional designers are skilled at choosing paint and can pick from store samples, making it look extremely easy. But keep in mind they have years of experience of choosing paints and then actually seeing them on the wall. They have tons of experience by actually seeing what works and what does not. The only way to not fall into this trap is to do what I have recommended. Otherwise, you will soon end up repainting because it was not what you envisioned. Trust me on this one, I know, because I have done this countless times.

Matching lighting

Another neat design trick is to use the same light fixtures throughout your home. Making your lighting consistent makes a powerful design statement.
By using the same light fixtures in your bathroom and bedroom, for example, ties the two rooms together. For example, for your lighting, you could use a globe theme throughout your house. In the kitchen, you could use clear blown glass in a globe shape pendant fixture, while in the bedroom you could use a globe-style chandelier. Just remember, do not try too many things in one room. Stick to the essentials and your favorites. Now, that being said, don't be afraid of trying something new. Changing the lighting in some rooms can have a dramatic effect. It gives you a visual transformation. Also, don't choose lighting based on looks alone. Choose lighting fixtures that will serve you the best. By following these tips you will be on your way to designing a comfortable and functional living space.

Matching cabinets

Kitchen cabinets

To make a really obvious and cohesive statement is to match your bathroom cabinets with your kitchen cabinets. By choosing to match cabinets throughout your home gives you continuity.
One option is to choose simple door styles and neutral colors this way it looks good in any room. Your design will flow from one space to another, making for a thoughtful flow between rooms. This design trick is especially good for open floor plans. You can stray away from completely matching styles by choosing styles that complement each other and have a pleasing continuity between the bathroom and kitchen cabinets. I suggest you also match the countertops, as I mentioned previously.

If you use a shaker style cabinet in the kitchen, then you are going to want to use the same shaker style cabinet in the bathroom or at least have the same clean styling in your bathroom cabinets. You would not want to have a traditional style in the kitchen and use a modern contemporary style in the guest bathroom, for example. The last design point to consider is to match the cabinets to your style of home. For example, if you have a Cottage style or contemporary home would want to match cabinetry.
