Choose furniture & fixtures wisely
So what are some beautiful, practical, and inexpensive ways to maximize your bathroom? One great way to save money but still have a beautiful bathroom is to choose your furniture and fixtures wisely. You do not need to spend thousands on fancy vanities to have a gorgeous bathroom. When you purchase a vanity, for example, you also have to purchase the top and a sink to go with it. Therefore, all the items add up in cost. One way to eliminate most of that cost is to choose a "one piece bathroom sinks" like the Kohler K-2238. These are often much cheaper and they are timeless, which I very much like. A one piece bathroom sink is an elegant, timeless design with inspiration from traditional or contemporary furniture designs. Many of the one piece sinks feature decorative edges or contemporary edges refining its presence in any bathroom. Also read my article on: Bathroom Mistakes to Avoid That Will Save You Money
Plan your storage
Another fantastic low-cost upgrade is to plan your storage space. Before you paint or tile the wall, think about where you would enjoy shelving. You want to plan for built-in shelving. By having built-in shelving you maximize your storage and it will look like they designed it into your bathroom and not look like an afterthought. Many times I see bathroom shelving and it looks like a complete afterthought suck on the wall in the last minute when the owner panicked because after they finished the update they needed more storage space. By planning ahead of time and having built-in shelving your bathroom will have that sophisticated, elegant look, and storage will look as if it's part of the bathroom. Shelving can be recessed into the wall in between the wall studs. One splendid example is in the shower. Having recessed shelving in the shower gives you a place to put your soap, shampoo, and conditioner. This is one feature you will never regret having. Reconsider having a tub
Do you really need a tub? Every bathroom does not need a tub, especially if you already have one in your master bathroom or another bathroom in your home. If this is the case, then you can have a very nice modern looking frame-less glass shower. These super luxurious walk-in shower enclosures are actually affordable. A walk-in luxurious shower run between $500 on the super cheap to a little over $1000. They come in many styles and have many features. Spending a little over $1000 is more like what you should budget for a walk-in shower. You will want a truly frame-less design with stainless steel hardware. Another important feature is to have a water repellent and stain resistant coating on your shower glass. The coating helps make you shower maintenance free. Who wants to be cleaning the glass all the time, right? Having a frame-less glass shower is the way to go because it immediately gives your bathroom a modern look plus it opens up the space making your bathroom look bigger than it really is. The DreamLine Enigma is a good example of a nice frame less glass shower design. Also read my article called: How to choose the right tile for your space
An important design feature for a walk-in shower is to move the controls away from directly underneath the shower-head. I love this feature because by having the controls placed away from the aim of the shower-head, you can now turn on the shower without getting wet. This allows you to turn on the shower, allowing the water to get to the desired temperature before getting wet. What a brilliant idea. I am sure this is another splendid feature you will never regret having. Also read my article called: Glass Shower Doors for a Truly Modern Bath
Use colors and patterns
Use colors and patterns to make your bathroom look and feel luxurious. Using vibrant colors and patterns makes a statement. For example, having a patterned bathroom floor makes a wonderful modern statement at an inexpensive cost. Pattern tiles work very well in a contemporary house and also in an older house in which you would choose a period-correct tile matching the detailing of your home. This way you are matching the designs so you will have a more heritage look and feel and your bathroom will not look out of place. Now, one great super low-cost alternative, if you do not have the budget to go with real tile floors, is to choose vinyl flooring in a tile design. For example, Lifeproof Rigid Core luxury vinyl flooring to your home makes nice tile pattern designs. They create a flooring product with beauty and durability in mind. Flooring is embossed to look and feel like real tile, without all the typical maintenance. Cleaning your floor is easy, to clean just sweep, vacuum, or damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Also, consider using vibrant colors on your walls and consider the use of tiles. I would not limit vibrant colors to just flooring. Also, patterns are not limited to just flooring either. For example, instead of going with a white metro subway tile consider using a nice gray color. Also, consider using pattern tiles on the wall. You can also use pattern tile on one wall and paint the rest of the bathroom walls in your favorite color. Another great option is to take a standard subway tile and create a herringbone pattern on the wall for a dramatic look. There are even wood simulated tiles. These are ceramic tiles that look like wood. They have a wood grain effect and look swell on the wall. You can get the rugged look of hand-scraped wood with the durability of porcelain. Because porcelain is resistant to moisture, they can install it in areas where wood cannot and requires far less maintenance. Also read my article called: Bathroom wall and floor tiles design ideas
Don’t skimp on lighting
If you are limited to a small space for your bathroom, there are two things you can do to help make your bathroom look and feel so much bigger. First, consider the lighting, more light always makes tight spaces look bigger. To help go with a lighter color paint or tile on the walls and make your bathroom has great lighting. Investing in a good high-quality light fixture will do wonders.
Consider mirrors
Second, use mirrors to create an illusion of more space. The significant thing about this design is you can get really creative. You do not have to have just one large mirror. You can put several smaller mirrors together on the wall. This adds more drama and interest. Using mirrors in the bathroom help bounces the light around. This is especially great if your bathroom does not have a window. They even make lighted mirrors. I love mirrors in the bathroom because they can add decoration and style and help express your personality. I love mirrors with a built-in LED light strip because it will brighten up space; you get very good lighting for your face and head, and it adds a modern style and sophistication.
