Low cost bathroom remodel ideas

Inexpensive bathroom ideas that make a huge difference

Low cost bathroom lighting

Many times the lighting fixture can quickly be dated. Once I see the round four or six white light bulbs in a row mounted above the mirror I know immediately it’s old. Changing the lighting is not that hard to do or expensive and can have a dramatic effect on the color and mood.

Older bathroom lighting casts ugly shadows and project unnatural color on your skin. New lighting can make your area look larger, newer and fresher. Plus makes your color accents and art stand out and be noticed. I tend to go with led lighting especially in small rooms because of the heat. With incandescent bulbs heat is a major factor. Six regular bulbs can heat up a small bathroom quickly. LEDs are much cooler depending on the style and brand.

Cheap paint ideas

Paint can make a huge difference due you are most likely changing the color of the wall to better fit your color scheme. This also can complement the color of your decor making it look more visually appealing.

You do not have to choose a glossy color anymore just to get the mildew resistant protections. Most all matte colors have the mildew additive or it can be added at the store at the time of purchase. Lighter color matte finishes work well. Using a matte natural color and a ceramic art gallery of your favorite items can be a great way to add impact and decoration to your walls.

Budget bathroom Sink

A new budget sink can have a big impact. New sinks and facets also make a big impact. Upgrading to a new style can be done without much cost. A 43 inch sink and vanity like the one pictured below from HomeDepot runs about $500 and up.

And most likely if your hardware has not been changed out recently you might be due for an upgrade anyway. Changing out the hardware on the vanity and or cabinets is a great idea and easy to do. Most hardware is just screwed on. For the drawer pulls, you just need to be careful to measure the distance between the holes and choose the right size pull replacement.

Simple accent remodel ideas

Pick simple accents that complement your wall art. This is an easy way and low cost way to add a flowing modern color accent to your room. Change out the rug and or floor mats to a new color. Pick towels in an accent color to add some pop. Like the one above from Macy's.

If you have a large enough area you can also add accessories. You may have a shelf or lighted area or cove where a live pant or floral arrangement will add an accent to the room. A new wastebasket and a soap dish or pump can be used as well to add a color accent. These are low cost schemes that adds color, accents and complements your art.

Affordable shelving in the bathroom

Building wall mounted affordable shelves to hold ceramic art is also a great idea to add color accents to your bathroom. You can also add pictures, framed art and other appealing items in different sizes and shapes on the shelves. They can be changed out easily at any time. This scheme works well when building a gallery of similar or favorite items. If you have a large bare wall this approach works well. If your bathroom walls are painted a light blue for example you could add items to your shelve that are complement colors. Repeating patterns can be used as well. Pick an art d├ęcor with a repeating pattern in different sizes to build your gallery. For example if I had a light natural green wall and by using multiple darker green ceramic flowers in varying sizes would make a good focal point.

Bathroom remodel ideas conclusion

Not all walls have to be decorated. Sometimes a blank wall looks good. It can be accomplished by using over-sized contemporary tiles. Using four by nineteen tiles across a wall in a rich color give the simplicity of a pattern with an elegant look and feel. This scheme works well with one wall done this way.

If you prefer color, make greay walls and add touches of navy with furniture and accessories. Another popular dark blue shade is midnight blue, which is more often combined with dove grey and other light shades of grey. This is a classic color scheme, which will bring an ultimate refined and luxurious feel to the space. How can I decorate my bathroom

Bathroom decor ideas
How many times have you asked the question how can I decorate my bathroom? If you ask this question more than once and not found an answer yet then you came to the right place. Here are several great tips on how to make your bathroom look like a million dollars. Bathroom decorative ideas that are inexpensive and simple.

Decorate Your Bathroom With New Lighting

Lighting is the most significant upgrade you can make. Recent studies found that together with the right color, lighting affects your mood. It is not that difficult or expensive to change your lighting. Changing your bathroom lighting makes for a new and bigger looking bathroom. The older your lighting is the more it’s going to change the color of your skin and make darker unattractive shades. So if at all possible you will want to change your fixture to a more modern one. However, if this is not possible try updating to a newer bulb that gives off a sunny day warm color.

Decorate Your Bathroom With New Artwork

Feel free to take a look at ceramic artwork or go for other artwork that gives you the statement you are looking for. Ceramics are great because they are waterproof. Steam is not a problem for ceramics. For a unique look you may try colorful art works or simply take an old photo and blow it up creating a canvas print. Now days these prints can be laminated for water resistance. My favorite is of course is ceramic fish sculptures. They are very colorful and make a unique statement. After selecting your artwork choose a wall color that will complement your artwork.

Decorate Your Bathroom With New Paint

After you have improved your bathroom’s lighting quality, the next rapid and somewhat easy upgrade to the bathroom is the paint. Choose light colors especially if your bathroom is small. It’s best to have the lighting upgraded first because it will change the color temperature in the room. Wall colors will look different.

Upgrade Bathroom Mirror And Fixtures

If your mirror is dated then an new one will do wonders for your bathroom. Also, consider upgrading drawer pulls. Just make sure you find a new one with the same hole spacing as your exiting ones. Then all you need to do is unscrew the two screws from the back of the drawer and install your new pull. This project is real quick and easy.

Warm and cozy bedroom ideas

Your bedroom should be a warm cocoon of comfort when the weather turns blustery. That doesn’t mean, however, that you need a complete bedroom renovation every season change, all it takes is a few touches to harmonize your area with the season.
Winter bedroom ideas

When your bedroom has a lot of cozy texture, it is easy to keep away the winter chill. Instead of adding smooth surfaces like in the summer, the goal is to add a number of heavy structures that create a warm feeling. A great way to warm up the bedroom is to add plaid patterns in the traditional red, green or blue. Ole school is elegant.

Bedroom Winter Essentials

When the temperature decreases, rearrange your furniture so that the fireplace take the center of the room and is the main focal point. Add plush materials and padding, even without rustling fire, can add warmth. Give a quick update of your bedroom and make it ready to use textured beds, throws, and pillows for the season.  Another great idea is to avoid the winter blues by adding cheerful hues to your spaces. Maybe add a a bright color throw pillow or a boldly patterned one. Bright colored room accents can last throughout the seasons and maximize your decorative bucks.

Kitchen lighting trends

Interior design kitchen lights

What are some kitchen lighting trends that can help you with your kitchen remodel? Got a kitchen lighting remodel idea but don’t know where to start? As you can imagine it  can be perplexing as you may not know where to start. The kitchen is probably the most critical room in your house for lighting. These is where most of the action and activity takes places and the correct lighting is essential. Who wants to prepare food in the dark, right? In addition, most interior concepts are open noways so this adds a new level of complexity for lighting because who wants to have bright lights glaring from the kitchen into the living room where a more relaxing atmosphere is desired.

Where to start with kitchen lighting

So the questions you are probably asking right about now is where do I start? One good idea is you can always start with a budget in mind. What are your goals and what do you see is missing in your current kitchen lighting design?

If you are a cook you are going to want a bright white light in the 4100 Kelvin range. This is going to give you a whiter light in which most chefs will prefer. This is a very good task light. But if you are lucky enough to have a large window in your kitchen and you can get perfectly natural clear sun light then this is going to beat any man made light. But when cooking dinner after the sun goes down could be a problem.

When it comes to Kelvin, its the most important thing for light bulbs. The higher the Kelvin the cooler light emitted from the bulb. The lower the Kelvin the warmer the color of the bulb. Save the warmer bulbs and lower Kelvin for the living room. You kitchen needs a white light so you can see what you are doing. This of course changes the dynamic of the space so if you want a warm light in the kitchen you may have to opt for two types of lighting. Task lighting for when cooking and a warmer light when not busy in the kitchen.

Kitchen lighting essentials

Kelvin and light color
What color light is best for the kitchen:
  • Daylight (5000 K): daylight bulbs are meant to look like cloudless daylight at noon, with a white, nearly bluish light. Instead of using it all over the kitchen, make it into accents for them when you prepare food.
  • Cool White (4100 K): The cool white white color is crunchy, and it’s a great workhorse in your kitchen and bathrooms.
  •  Soft white (2700 to 3000 K): That’s a classic light that emits a mild, yellowish light, familiar and warmer than that of a cool white bulb.
  • Warm White (2400 K): Warm white bulbs resemble candle light at the hottest color temperature.  They are fantastic for setting that romantic atmosphere.

Kitchen Bulb Options

What type of lighting is best for your kitchen:

  • Halogens, which are only available in a relatively warm 3000 K color, are 100% true and cheap. But they’re an old technology now, and they’ll be dim when they get warm.
  • CFLs that can be spiral shaped are essentially mini – fluorescent ones, so they may need time to warm up. They can however last ten times longer and are available in any color temperature than conventional incandescent.
  • LEDs, initially known to be price higher, have the lowest energy costs and are available in more affordable and flexible technology. It is possible to choose directive, semi – directional or omni-directional styles and at nearly any color.

Kitchen lighting trends conclusion

The bottom line is if you have a combined kitchen and living room or an open concept kitchen you are going to need to types of lighting in your kitchen. A working lighting that is bright. This is also refereed to a task lighting and then a more relaxing light for when activity in the kitchen is low and you are relaxing in the living area. This is where you want a warm whit light in the 2400 K range.

Living room trends

What are some of the biggest and best living room trends. What do the interior design professionals recommend? I don't always agree with the latest trends but it's interesting to see what is trending and what is hot. Once you take a look for yourself you can easy decide if it's right for your interior or not. You may even want to just incorporate a few of the ideas and not everything that is trending.

This article builds on it self so it starts in the current year and works backward. Feel free to check back next year and see the current living room trend for that year. If you are interested in more topics like these you should read my other article called: what is the most important element in interior design.

2019 Living Room Trends

2019 trend painted ceilings

One of the biggest and best 2019 living room trends according to the professionals is painted ceilings. In my opinion it looks great provided you choose the right color for the amount of natural lighting you have in the room.

So for an example if you have a very dark room to begin with and not much natural lighting a dark ceiling is going to make the room even darker. Now that being said, that is may be your intent.

One big disadvantage I see is the the ceiling now become your accent color so you better like it a lot because changing it to another color now requires painting the entire ceiling. And of course your now that is not an easy and quick job.

For the positive, your room has a dramatic effect. Anyone seeing it for the first time will surly have a comment to make on how interesting and appealing it looks. Done right, with the right mix of colors looks very nice.

Another popular 2019 trend is plants

Lots and lots of plants are a big part of 2019 living room trends. As you know plants can make an eye catching statement most anywhere in your home or office. So it's just natural that they look great in your living room, right?

When choosing a plant just make sure you do your homework and select a plant for the amount of natural light you have for your room and how much your plant will need. And do not forget to water.
